Its nearly time for Lakme Fashion Week again folks! How exciting, whatever will I wear? And this time I’ve decided to blog and vlog (that’s video blog for the uninitiated) all the madness that happens off ramp and in prep as well! Didjya know, for instance that every year (sometimes twice) the press and privileged few get an email from Anil Chopra (Advisor, Lakme) and N. Rajaram (Vice President, Lakme) announcing the glam fest? In fact this year they are pleased to inform us that Lakme Fashion Week is celebrating “10 Years of Fashion.” In fact the first Lakme India Fashion Week was held in New Delhi in the year 2000. The one coming up is at The Grand Hyatt, Mumbai from 18 – 22 September, 2009.  (Yes that’s 10, I did the math.)

Each day will witness 5 to 6 shows by different designers plus there’s a ‘GenNext’ show on Saturday, September 19th at noon and a pioneering effort to give recognition to Menswear is captured by a dedicated Menswear Day on Sunday, September 20th.

So here’s how it works, you get an email saying;

“We would be delighted to invite you to attend two shows. One show each from those listed in black and red colours separately, in the enclosed schedule, along with a companion. As there are limited seats, and as you would imagine a huge demand, we would appreciate if you could confirm your attendance latest by Friday, September 11th, 2009. Please do give 2 preferences in each category (red & black.) We will try our best to accommodate you as per your request. Please do note, that every invitation has a corresponding pre-assigned seat number/block, which in case you are attending, would be your seat/block for the show and is not transferable. In view of this, we would appreciate your firm confirmation of your personal attendance. We personally look forward to meeting you at Lakme Fashion Week.”

Cool eh? I’ve listed my preferences as Manish Malhotra, Wendell Rodricks, Anita Dongre Timeless and Nachiket Barve, mostly because I like to hit up Fashion Week on the weekend and Manish Malhotra is ramp royalty. I mean do you remember the turn out at his post-show party in April this year? Epic. I was a just a spilt drink away from Shah Rukh Khan all night! (Also because I’m hoping to hit up Narendra Kumar & Rocky S. for passes too…) Psst! Didjya know Rocky and Bipasha Basu are BFFs? She writes on his Facebook wall all the time! He’s currently an all-caps kinda happy at Kolkatta Fashion Week.)

Lets see, what else; hopefully Shamita Singha will do her backstage blogging as well and I’m going to try to shoot what the ladies of leisure (seated in the front row) are wearing this season. Watch this space, For now I’m going to go practice my air kisses, *mwah mwah* ;)
