Model Talk: We Know Vino!

Shamita Singha
Remember I told you Shamita Singha is a model/wine connoisseur? Well she’s taken it all the way now and started her own wine club called “We Know Vino” (catchy!) Here are some pictures from the first run at the Tasting Room at Good Earth, Raghuvanshi Mills, Mumbai last Saturday.

Shamita and Mashoom Singha

Ajoy Advani

Sital Patel
There’s a Facebook group for more info and updates and she plans to host this workshop at least twice a month, so in case you miss one you can always sign up for the next. I’m planning to hit up the one on November 14th in case you’re looking for company :)

That is the equivalent of over $100 for wine tasting! No wonder this is aimed at those who cannot tell their Merlots from their Chardonnays (I mean, really now)

Ok, I checked the wines served at the event, and they included 3 Yellow Tails alone. Is the duty on wines so high in India that you’d pay Rs 5000 to sample Yellow Tails?

Hmm since I know nothing about wines I have no idea what a Yellow Tail should cost (but yes obviously these are the pass times of the rich and restless!)

Well, the standard bottle of Yellow Tail costs about $15, with duty, in Asia. And it’s a really, and I mean really average wine. And a New World one at that. Not to sound snotty or anything ;)
No, but really, much as I love efforts like these that are encouraging interest in wine (hopefully soon for all the right reasons), I cannot love the sometimes-prohibitive prices everywhere.
The rich and restless can afford their education in Bordeaux and Chianti (and believe me…I’ve been…it costs less there), but the on-a-budget-yet-restless deserve to be privy to St.Vino’s gospels as well :)
Hic!

Erm…when I said ‘prohibitive prices everywhere’, I meant in India.

The event was spot on. I learnt a lot about wines and have continued to put the education to good use. 10 wines, 3 course (large portion) meal, cheeses, great company and lots of laughs… Worth every rupee. Can’t wait for the Countries workshop.
