Band Baaja Baaraat Team is Back with Ladies VS Ricky Bahl

The amazing success of Band Baaja Baaraat (you can win a poster) compelled the team to come up with another film. It’s titled Ladies VS Ricky Bahl. The ‘are-they-together-or-not?’ couple Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma star in it. The crew that worked on Band Baaja Baaraat, i.e. producer Aditya Chopra has provided the story, Habib Faisal has written the dialogues, the screenplay is Devika Bhagat‘s. The music will be composed by Salim-Sulaiman, lyrics will be penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya and the film will be shot by Aseem Mishra (DOP). The film promises to be a rom-con where Ricky Bahl cons girls for a living but finally meets his match. Who are the women other than Anushka Sharma in the film? One of them comes from the marketing department of YRF itself. Parineeti Chopra auditioned for the role and will be launched with the film. Lucky girl! The other is Dipannita Sharma whose yacht you’ve explored with MissMalini.com :) The third is Aditi Sharma who you probably recognize from ad campaigns. The crew starts shooting for the film early April and is slotted for 9th December 2011 release (the same weekend Band Baaja Baaraat released). Do you think they’ll be able to recreate the magic? Oh dear god, please don’t let this be a John Tucker Must Die rip-off! Its too early to judge, but it looks like the director is just trying to cash in on the BBB success with a commercially safe, Bachna Ae Haseeno type film.
Ranveer Singh was fabulous as the brash, middle class Delhi boy, but I don’t think he has the suavity or conventional good looks to convincingly portray a player whom all of these gorgeous girls would want to fall for.
Anyway, I’m tiring of Bollywood’s preference for male leads who are promiscuous jerks, I wish they would stop propagating this myth that men who sleep around and treat women like dirt are attractive, because they are not. We’ve had too many of those lately- Jai in IHLS, Ranbir in BAE, the idiots in the upcoming Thank You and so many more. Will we ever see a Bollywood female lead who is a terrible flirt and uses guys? I think not.
