Nicholas Kirkwood is the king when it comes to funky shoes that make a statement. Kirkwood has successfully grown his business into something even the safest starlets want to wear. Recently Miranda Kerr took her Kirkwoods for a spin at the Met Gala 2011. I even spotted our own Rhea Kapoor at Lakmé Fashion Week wearing black leather Kirkwood Booties and couldn’t stop staring at them. Kirkwood’s whole idea behind making shoes was essentially to fill a void when it came to statement shoes. His shoes first became popular when he simply turned the platform back to front. This small change made the heels appear off kilter and extremely popular. I believe his quirkiness has to do with his eclectic friends, namely Isabella Blow and Phillip Treacy (who he lived and worked with).

Here are some of his latest beauties, as you can see Nicholas plays around with the placement and shape of the platform and Heel. What I love about his shoes are the versatility that comes with that eccentricity. These shoes can easily be worn with something extravagant or with something minimalist, either way Kirkwood shoes are always a perfect fit. The perfect example of this is Ms. Parker, she’s been spotted wearing the same Kirkwood pair of heels with different looks, somehow they work for each outfit.

SJP loves her Blue Kirkwood high heels, she’s worn them 3 times with different outfits, and then went out and bought a pair with a red accent colour! Frankly, those are a great pair of statement heels, it pretty much makes her outfits look high fashion.

He’s now the sought after designer for shoes for  brands like Erdem, Pollini and Rodarte. Some designers say that his shoes are a source of inspiration and that they pull a collection together. He’s now heading the accessories at Pollini as well as churning out collection for his own Label. With all his awards and accolades I just can’t wait to fulfill my high heel bucket list (yes I have one or should I say wish list?) and get a pair myself!
