Hollywood actor Rob Schneider was the latest in the line-up of International celebs who have graced Indian shores this year, to perform their routines for us with aplomb. The star of slapstick comedies like Hot Chick, Deuce Bigalow – Male Gigolo and 50 First Dates kept his date wit Mumbai on Sunday night and had everybody rolling in the isles as he performed his set of stand-up comedy for the Black Dog Comedy Evenings event.

Rob Schneider entered the stage to the tune of the famous raunchy Bollywood number, Choli Ke Peechhey Kya Hai and then, through the evening, proceed to show off his skills at learning Hindi words. Among the tamer ones he spewed were maa ki aankh while the BC abuse and ch****ya were also liberally used here and there! Of course, the audience lapped it up!

Among the more famous faces who came in to watch the act were film maker Nagesh Kukunoor, producer Elahe Hiptoolah, actor-veejay Rannvijay Singha and Sidhartha Mallya. In fact, he had just completed the Delhi marathon in the morning and yet, looked as fresh as a dewdrop. Joining him was lense-man Atul Kasbekar, who also said on Twitter, “This Rob Schneider was hysterical. Awesome stand up. Laughed so hard, think I had twins, or something like that.” For the record, Atul already has twins! Apparently, Rob even signed a Black Dog whiskey carton for Atul.

Unfortunately, we were not given permission to do video bytes for our MissMalini YouTube Channel, but I did have the pleasure of meeting him for a few minutes while he checked out of the hotel, after the show. He was warm and had a naughty twinkle in his eye. Most of all, he loved the kurta I was wearing and expressed dismay at the fact that his busy schedule did not allow him to do any extensive shopping. And yes, he did autograph my pass to his show was well. Yay!

However, while Rob entertained and “ranted” about his South American wife, I must mention Mumbai-based comedian, Sorabh Pant, who opened the show for the Hollywood star. Sorabh was in a league of his own as he literally had the audience holding their sides with laughter and good cheer. He’s one comedian to watch out for and we hope to see him headlining many more stand-up comedy acts in the future.
