LFW WF 2011 – Gen Next designers

While all of us are focusing on our new years plans, the folks over at Lakmé Fashion Week have been busy planing Spring/Resort 2012. This year they have decided to dedicate a day to salute Indian textiles. Krishna Mehta will be the curator for this day, as she has been a strong advocate for Indian textiles over the years. This day will show case different designers who will use fabrics like Khadi, Jute, Chanderi, Mashru, Kota and Indian craftsmanship. I can’t wait to see what this will bring in terms of design, will designers go traditional or contemporary, it sounds fascinating.

Something I’m looking forward to are the Talent Box shows, which have budding designers showcasing, some for the first time. Making their debut with their brand called sofake is hairstylist to the stars Sapna Bhavanan

i and Sukriti Grover. The collection from what I’ve seen has a very strong androgynous feel, which I love and can’t wait to see them on the runway.

This year 7 new Gen Next designers who were selected by a fashion-savvy Advisory board were chosen. I bet the talent showcasing will be extra-ordinary as the team who picked them are some of the best in the industry. On the advisory board are Nonita Kalra, Sathya Saran, Anamika Khanna and Krishna Mehta, Dr. Darlie O’ Koshy, Pradeep Hirani, Dr. Alka Nishar and Anjana Sharma.
