Listen up ladies, if you want to get married and are waiting for him to propose, WAIT NO MORE. According to old Irish law, women were given the ‘right’ to propose to any man she wanted on the 29th of Feb, every leap year. This might not seem like such a big deal now, but considering women weren’t allowed to do much in those days, this was huge. The best part of this whole proposal was that if the man did decline, he had to pay a fine. Usually it was a pair (or 12 in some cases) of silk gloves, so that the ladies could cover up their un-engagement ring finger – how horrid!
