Angelina Jolie at the Oscars

Angelina Jolie’s black velvet gown, by Atelier Versace [and the shoes were by Ferragamo, in case you wanted to know :-)], didn’t stand out in the slightest for me, on the Oscars’ red carpet. What caught my attention though, was, her right leg,

deliberately

sticking out! Was it to show that the gown wasn’t just a giant splodge of velvet and that there was a

obscene

thigh-high slit on it, or, to distract from noticing her worryingly slender frame? I wondered. Looks like I wasn’t the only one who caught her leg-baring antics, as it, surprisingly, became quite the talk of the Oscars! From being mocked on stage to becoming an internet sensation, this attention-seeking long, lithe limb is sure enjoying its 15-minutes of fame. Trust me, you want to know all about this one… It’s howlarious!

Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie: All eyes on Angie’s right leg!
“Hello, world,” says Angie’s right leg!

As is customary when you walk the red carpet, you strike up a series of your best poses for the waiting media. It was then, as she & Brad Pitt were making their way into the Kodak Theatre, that this monster was created. She was seen adjusting her gown constantly ‒ to ensure the cameras caught her right leg from every angle!

Angelina Jolie on stage to present the Best Adapted Screenplay award

And if anyone thought that they’ve seen the last of the naughty limb when the awards ceremony kicked off, they were wrong. As she walked on stage to present the Best Adapted Screenplay award, she replicated one of the poses she struck up earlier on the red carpet. She stopped at the microphone for several seconds with one hand on her hip and a bent right knee thrust out through the

endless

slit on the gown. This brought about wolf -whistles and cheering from the audience, and she giggled before announcing The Descendants‘s screenwriting trio of Alexander Payne, Nat Faxon and Jim Rash as the winner.

The award-winning duo mimicking Angelina Jolie on stage!

While Alexander Payne, who also produced and directed the film, was giving his acceptance speech, Nat Faxon and Jim Rash got in to a spot of mimicking: those two struck up that pose ‒ while up on stage, that is! ‒ in an exaggerated manner, which drew roars of laughter from the crowd. Afterwards, Nat Faxon had this to say on their onstage shenanigans: “I had just seen her pose and thought it was bold and fun. And you know what? We have exactly the same legs! Really, it was a loving tribute and nothing but.”

Even Piers Morgan, the CNN host, got involved in the frivolity on Twitter

According to The Academy, there were 3399 tweets per minute on Twitter that night (or morning!) with the hashtag #Angelinasleg, making it a worldwide trending topic on Twitter, well into Monday, even!

Before long, a genius parody account, @AngiesRightLeg, popped up on Twitter, which now has 27000 followers and counting.

More legbombing!

Not only that, an internet meme called legbombing has been dedicated to it too, where her right leg has been photoshopped on random photos (check it out ‒ brilliant time-wasting material it is!).

And not to forget, media attention.

Did you find it all a good laugh? Do you think thigh-baring is the only way on the red carpet for Angie after this? Do tell, do tell… 😀
