Springfield on The Simpsons

This is possibly one of the best kept secrets in American television – where is the real Springfield from The Simpsons?!  After 23 years the creator of the The Simpsons Matt Groening has finally revealed the inspiration of Springfield in an interview with Smithsonian Magazine.

Groening told the magazine, “Springfield was named after Springfield, Oregon [where the creator grew up]… I figured out that Springfield was one of the most common names for a city in the U.S. In anticipation of the success of the show, I thought, This will be cool; everyone will think it’s their Springfield.”

Gizmodo has compared images from Groening’s hometown with iconic places on The Simpsons, here’s a look at some of the pictures.
