It’s super hard to pick favorites because I LOVE books (and am guilty of buying way more than I can read at any one time) but I thought I’d get you started on a few that I absolutely LOVE…

Still Life with Woodpecker

Still Life with Woodpecker

“Just because you’re naked doesn’t mean you’re sexy. Just because you’re cynical doesn’t mean you’re cool.”

Still Life with Woodpecker is a sort of a love story that takes place inside a pack of Camel cigarettes. It reveals the purpose of the moon, explains the difference between criminals and outlaws, examines the conflict between social activism and romantic individualism, and paints a portrait of contemporary society that includes powerful Arabs, exiled royalty, and pregnant cheerleaders. It also deals with the problem of redheads.

And because it continuously addresses the question of how to make love stay, it is probably my favorite book of all time, it just really got me. I really love most of Tom Robbins’ books actually. Try one you won’t regret it!

Snow White and the Seven Samurai

“Everything is out there if you know how to find it, and have the patience. I don’t and haven’t, but that’s my problem.”

In Snow White and the Seven Samurai Hackers crash the Wicked Queen’s Operating system (Mirrors 3.1) so fairytale land needs rebooting – only Snow White is in control, the Seven Samurai are fighting the Dwarf with no name, the Big Bad Wolf has been turned into Prince Charming, the Three Little Pigs keep blowing up their house, the Brothers Grimm are trying a hostile takeover and all Dr. Frankenstein can create is a small wooden boy whose nose keeps growing. All on all, not a place you want to be trapped!

If you love fairy tales, you’ll love how Tom Holt plays with this one. In fact I plan to read it over again right after I watch Mirror Mirror staring Julia Roberts in the cinema 🙂

Passion India
Passion India

“Being a princess isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.”

Javier Moro’s Pasión India chronicles the remarkable rags-to-riches tale life of Anita Delgado, a beautiful Spanish dancer who won the heart of a rich Maharaja during the last decades of the British Raj and became maharani Prem Kaur.

I mean, how can anyone resist the story of a real-life princess?  Picking up a theme amid my literary preferences yet, hmm? *lol*

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

Seconds before the Earth is demolished (to make way for a galactic freeway) Arthur Dent is plucked off the planet by his friend Ford Prefect, a researcher for the revised edition of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy who, for the last fifteen years, has been posing as an out-of-work actor. Together, this dynamic pair began a journey through space aided by a galaxyful of fellow travelers: Zaphod Beeblebrox, the two-headed, three-armed, ex-hippie and totally out-to-lunch president of the galaxy; Trillian (formerly Tricia McMillan), Zaphod’s girlfriend, whom Arthur tried to pick up at a cocktail party once upon a time zone; Marvin, a paranoid, brilliant, and chronically depressed robot; and Veet Voojagig, a former graduate student obsessed with the disappearance of all the ballpoint pens he’s bought over the years. Where are these pens? Why are we born? Why do we die? For all the answers, stick your thumb to the stars!

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. This book is pure genius garnished with insanity. It’s my go to book whenever I don’t know what to read because you can start anywhere but you’ll always end up at the restaurant at the end of the universe 🙂
