Right. He’s gone and done it again! Thrown on a dress, grabbed his man clutch and tootled off in his pilgrim-buckle shoes ‒ to a big event. To wit, a sheer, black “lace dress” over white boxers was his garb of choice to the Costume Institute Gala, i.e. the Met Ball, last night. And the reason being…?
He wanted to pay tribute to the subjects of Costume Institute’s next exhibit ‒ Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations ‒ which was to open the following day. “I just didn’t wanna wear a tuxedo and be boring,” said Marc Jacobs to Elettra Wiedemann, the red carpet compere for the evening. “I think Miuccia Prada is such a celebration of the unconventional and so it felt like, appropriate, somehow.”
But, you know what? That lace tunic/dress/overcoat/whatever was actually intended for men! Yep, it’s from Comme des Garçons Homme Plus’s Spring/Summer 2012 line, like that pink T-shirt dress of his. Rei Kawakubo layered those two pieces at the runway and, to be honest, I found them quite spunky; they somehow worked. But on Marc, i.e. when worn on their own, they just look… pure odd, and attention-hogging, I’m afraid.
SO, what do you guys think: fabulously wacky or errr…?
