Bollywood Fathers
Bollywood Fathers

One thing Bollywood is probably best known for is its family dramas. And somewhere in that family drama, is a father – sometimes a loving, doting father, and at other times a stricter, stern father. For Fathers’ Day, let’s take a look at three types of Bollywood fathers, and the actors who have excelled in these roles.

1) The Strict Father: Amrish Puri

Amrish Puri gets the title of the strict father, thanks mostly to those angry eyes and that booming voice. Perhaps his most notable fatherly role was Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, where he played the conservative, strict father, who struggles to find his foothold in a foreign land.

2) The Kind-Hearted Father: Alok Nath

Alok Nath‘s warm smile makes him perfect for the role of the sweet, caring father. In films such as Hum Saath Saath Hain, Vivah and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, he plays the perfect, doting father. A line from Hum Saath Saath Hain probably best describes the kind of father he’s used to portraying: “the family that prays together, eats together… stays together!”

3) The Goofy Father: Anupam Kher

Anupam Kher‘s comic timing has really helped him be the quirky, funny father. In Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, he acts more like Shah Rukh Khan‘s friend than father, giving him props for failing. In Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, he plays the father and school principle who’s harbouring a crush on one of the teachers. And in Life Partner, he plays the father who always tries to keep his daughter happy, but detests her boyfriend – a situation which leads to some hilarious results.
