Remember back in March, Amruta and I got makeovers at b:blunt’s blow-out bar? Well, we mentioned at that time that we werehighly jealous of this one girl who got a haircut by Osh Bhabani, so guess what? MissMalini hooked us both up with haircuts and since then we’ve been bouncing-in-our-seat excited! We got our haircuts today and are so thrilled with the end results – but the best part is, Osh took us through it step-by-step! Wanna see? 🙂

PS., we love to share so of course we asked him for some tips for you as well. Read on, and let your monsoon hair woes begone!

Amruta has fine, straight hair with very little volume, so she wanted something that’d give her a little more bounce – but at the same time, she loves her long hair and absolutely didn’t want to cut off too much. So Osh decided to cut off just a little bit at the ends to even it out, and then give her internal layers so that she’d have more volume without sacrificing length.

He also gave her a fringe to add volume to the top of her head and make her face look longer. To achieve more volume, he suggested that she take a few strands from the other side of her parting and move it onto the bangs. That gave the bangs a slightly more lifted, voluminous look, rather than having them just fall flat against her forehead.

After the cut was done, it was time to style her hair keeping in mind that she wanted volume. So Osh put some product in Amruta’s hair to protect it from the heat, asked her to turn her head over, and then blew it out with a diffuser attached to the end of his blow-dryer. This added some extra bounce to her hair.

Tip – here’s a great way to achieve volume in fine hair without having to blow-dry: put some curl-defining product in your hair, scrunch it, gather it like you’re going to make a low ponytail, twist it, and then pin it to the top of your head. Leave your hair up for about 30 minutes, then you can let it down – this will give it natural waves.

As for me, I have wavy hair but prefer keeping it straight – not a big fan of how curly and frizzy my hair can get. I also thought my ends were way too uneven, so the first thing Osh did was to even out the ends without taking too much length off. Then he gave me some internal layers, but fewer than Amruta’s, since I already had some volume and didn’t really want “big” hair anyway.

For my hair, he wanted everything to blend in well, which is why he decided against giving me short bangs. Rather, he cut them to just frame my face, while keeping them long enough to tuck behind my ear. I also don’t have a very long forehead, so he said cutting my bangs too short would just hide it completely!

After the cut was done, Osh decided to blow-dry my hair straight, since that’s how I prefer it. He put in some anti-frizz product and dried my hair straight, then blew out my fringe separately to give it lift and volume.

Tip – one of my biggest concerns was hair fall and uneven ends. Osh suggests getting a hair trim every 3 months to fix those ends, which keeps hair healthy and can help against hair loss. Also, putting product in your hair before applying heat protects the hair, so there’s less damage.

What do you think of our new haircuts? We’re mighty pleased, as you can probably tell! Osh did a fabulous job, and the best part is, he walked us through it and gave us useful tips. Of course, we wanted to get some tips for you too, so we asked him for monsoon tips and quick fixes for when you’re in a crunch. Here’s what he had to say:

Thank you, Osh, for our lovely manes!
