Shekhar Kapur announced his film Paani at Cannes in 2010 – but the film has yet to take off. Now the latest buzz is that Ranbir Kapoor will essay the lead in the film, replacing Hrithik Roshan.

This rumor was sparked after Shekhar and Ranbir were spotted in discussion several times. Word has it that Ranbir was approached for another one of Shekhar’s movies, but apparently rejected that film and instead asked to hear the script of Paani. Apparently, Paani is set in a world where there is a severe water crisis – and tells the love story between a girl from the city that controls water, and a boy from a town where they have to fight for water.

It’s unclear as to whether Shekhar will give him that role, or is trying to get Ranbir on-board for another film entirely. We’ll have to see if anything materializes from their meetings, but meanwhile, would you like to see Ranbir Kapoor in Paani?
