Director of The Art Loft, Kevin Tayebaly, shares with us the story behind the scene. The Art Loft is a cultural center in Bandra that he created with his sister and art therapist, Leila Tayebaly, 2 years ago. He sees The Art Loft as a collective dream.

For individuals, it is a center dedicated to art awareness, art education, and self-awareness. For artists, it is a unique space in which they can freely meet, learn, teach, share, exchange, network and work together on various types of events, shows and exhibitions. For corporates, it is a platform for training and development, brand communication, client interaction or artistic consultancy. We’ve created a bridge between arts and wellness, in which art is a universal language.

Our workshops are mainly used to reconcile emotional conflicts, increase self-awareness and self-esteem, help improve the quality of life and arouse our curiosity. To different people fit different medium. While Leila mainly works with fine arts, we also use various mediums facilitating natural life changes such as theatre, dance, photography, creative writing, yoga, food appreciation and much more.

One of our goals is to bring art to unconventional places, where it can reach a large audience. We strongly believe in public art… so when I met Natasha Malhotra in January at one of the first Diesel+Art shows with Siddhartha Kararwal, I immediately knew that we had to do something together.

6 months later, here we are: a superb group show showcasing the work of 7 extremely talented photographers. I’d recommend everyone to go and visit the Diesel store in Juhu before it gets over. (7th of August)

We all know how art can be intimidating. Attending an exhibition on a Saturday evening at the Diesel store is the perfect way to make people feel more comfortable about art shows. It’s the perfect bridge to reach contemporary art.

We planted seeds with the Art Conspiracy two years ago, this time again we’ve curated a show totally in line with our main belief : not only there is art in everything that we do, but anyone can feel and experience it at his own level of creativity.

In this exhibition, our curators, Andrea Fernandes and Philippe C, brought together 7 eclectic photographers from around the country in an intimate, almost voyeuristic peek into their personal photo and video diaries.

This exhibition compiles personal archives with individual and accidental recordings of the photographers’ ‘lives’. As a counterpoint to a conventional understanding of what is ‘deemed to make a photograph’, this show brings together a collection of images that explores the banality of daily life, through its most intimate and spontaneous aspects.

The result stands as a furtive but intense glimpse of the times we live in, as well as an attempt to establish the documentary as well as artistic value of these various personal diaries.

This exhibition combines different types of styles and approaches: While Bartholomew, Dakpa, De, Hura and Mahajan give us a glimpse of their personal lives through still images, Philippe and Fisk use multimedia projections in order to draw a portrait of the European and Indian metropolis through the recording of their cathemeral wanderings.

None of the art works on view has never been showed to the public before. The exhibition will be on view till August 7th.
