“I am a better person today than I have ever been,” she says, subscribing to the philosophy of no regrets because regrets mean you haven’t really learnt anything from all that you have gone through. “The years that have passed have added to my personality. I am who I am because of everything that has happened to me.”

On her marriage to Ajay Devgn: The rumor mill hasn’t been kind to her marriage, and Kajol isn’t pretending its all roses and romance. “There are times when marriage is not such a comfortable place,” she says, classic Kajol. “But you find your way, you become a different person. You grow into it. And you have to work at marriage every day.

“I’m a mean bitch,” she says. “I’m really nasty, you know. I’m critical and cutting. [Ajay] is a much better person than me. It’s not easy being the sensible one all the time, but he’s such a gentleman. He manages to calm me when I’m frustrated or angry, he always knows what to say or do. I really look up to him.”

On her fitness regime: She mentions, “I love my body,” she says happily, wide grin in place, “And I’m always working out. I’m an exercise freak. Cardio, weights, t’ai chi, yoga. Gymming is one of the things [husband] Ajay and I love doing together.”

Life post 30: She is at most content with the person she is, it’s revelatory, that kind of self-acceptance. She shares, “I’m completely happy with myself. I think, by the time you’re 30, you know who you are inside. Or you should, anyway. You learn to laugh at things you can’t change, you learn to be yourself.”
