Vinnaithandi Vaaruvaayaa: You beaut!

May I then recommend you this Tamil flick – okay, take a deep breath – Vinnaithandi Vaaruvaayaa – which translates to: will you cross the skies and come? (Let’s call it VTV in short, yeah?) I don’t understand a scrap of Tamil (I watched it with subtitles) – but swept off my feet I was by the film’s notion of love. Ah, they don’t make it like this in Bollywood anymore! Yep, it’s the Tamil − or, rather the original − version of Ekk Deewana Tha – and it happens to be exponentially more beautiful. Just watch VTV’s picturisation of the divine song Hosanna. You’ll know what I mean.

Breathtaking, no? Btw, that’s in Malta. It’s such a pure and simple story, and I’m sure you’d have come across something like that in real life, too. But the main reason VTV strikes a chord with you − and EDT fails to − is because of the lead pair, Simbu and Trisha. Such amazing chemistry they share, such rousing performance they give, you really go along for the ride with them.

Ekk Deewana Tha: What a letdown!

In comparison, Prateik Babbar and Amy Jackson’s attempts leave a LOT to be desired. Btw, VTV and EDT have different endings.

Ye Maaya Chesave: LOVE!

Slightly less brill than VTV but infinitely better than EDT is the Telugu version Ye Maaya Chesave (translation: what magic have you done to me?) Indeed, Naga Chaitanya (Rana Daggubati’s cousin/Nagarjuna’s son) and Samantha gave fine performances. And guess what? Its ending is different from those two too 🙂

The boy is well cute, no? But he’s got two left feet!!! And that was the storied PRINCETON UNIVERSITY!!!

How jarring are the layers of

awful

slap on Amy, to make her, a Caucasian looking Malayali? And how parched is her hair? It’s crying out for some spritz of Fekkai’s glossing mist!
