The battle for the White House is heating up! The U.S. presidential election is probably the most closely watched political event around the world. The women behind these powerful men know that, and are using their dress choices to make a statement.

Last week at the Republican National Convention, Mitt Romney‘s wife Ann Romney chose to wear a red dress from designer Oscar de la Renta. This week at the Democratic National Convention, Barack Obama‘s wife, and current First Lady, Michelle Obama wore a pink dress from Tracy Reese.

These choices are not standard picks from the railings. It’s a bold calculative move. Obama’s dress designer is Tracy Reese, an African-American. The price tag? $400.

Romney chose to wear Dominican Republican born designer Oscar de la Renta and apparently her dress would retail at an upwards of $4000. See the disparity in prices? The red colour was also significant – it’s the colour of the Republican party.

Who do you think wins this round? The current First Lady who is keen to defend her turf? Or the new entrant – Romney?
