Here’s more good news for all my dusky beauties! Your skin is the best-protected against UV damage — not so much that you can forget your sunscreen — but enough that you’re always going to look younger than any lighter skinned peeps! Plus your skin pigmentation provides camouflage against redness and even some cellulite. So here are a few tips for girls with dark skin:

Never use artificial cosmetic bleaching treatments to change the color of your skin. They can be dangerous and even ruin your skin permanently.

Prevent acne with a pore-cleansing salicylic-acid wash once or twice a day.

Keeping your skin free of ashy patches requires heavy hydration. Use a rich lotion or cream, moisturize often and ideally right after you shower when your skin is still damp. MissMalini recommends: Vaseline cocoa butter lotion.

To keep your face hydrated use a gentle cleanser instead of a drying soap. MissMalini recommends: Dove Deep Pure Pore Care Facewash

Drink plenty of water and exercise regularly. A healthy body will help keep your skin tone looking healthy as well. Remember: You need at least eight glasses per day!

When choosing make-up, you will want to look for “warm tones.” MissMalini recommends: Lakmé Absolute Desert Dune

Use highlighting makeup, particularly on your cheekbones, forehead and nose area. Good colors to use for highlighting are cinnamon, dark pink, cocoa, gold tones or a bronze shade.

Occasionally massage a few drops of honey and almond extract to give your face a natural shine.

And finally, take Baz Luhrmann’s advice and use a sunscreen 🙂 MissMalini recommends: Lakmé Sunscreen
