Film-maker turned designer, Muzaffar Ali and his wife Meera, displayed one of the most elegant and restrained bridal collections we have seen in recent times at the Aamby Valley India Bridal Fashion Week 2012. The duo called their line Jamazeb and in a departure from the usual bridal hues of red, orange and pink, they opened their show with a dramatic line of all-black ensembles which included a long net kurta with gorgeous velvet cutwork bodice, a corset with a silk lehenga and a velvet edged net kurta with sheer sleeves that glittered with bead work.
They also had a selection of men’s wear which was simple and comprised of just quilted jackets, waistcoats, bundies, five button mandarin collar coats or velvet quilted sherwanis in masculine tones.
Retailing under the label, Kotwara, the husband-wife team are known for creating ensembles embroidered with the traditional chikankari work of Lucknow. This time however, they experimented with chikankari by adding some techniques like zardozi, aari, appliqués and kamdani work as well.
The second half of the show was filled with colour as reds and yellows danced with oranges and rusts for shaded ankle length net halter kurtas, georgette saris with gold embroidery and gold corsets worn with loose gold ijars. The yellows had shading as floor skimming silk kurtas were teamed with patchwork ankle length pants, while a cute gold embroidered bolero over a wine net long kurta added chic sophistication.
