Swades operates with the belief that India can’t reach its full potential without there being a real change in the lives of people in rural India. Therefore, through the foundation, Zarina and Ronnie hope to empower rural India by using a 360 degree development approach, which encompasses water/sanitation, agriculture/livelihood, health, and education.

The idea for the name change came when, during a brainstorming session, they were talking about what they wanted to achieve, and someone commented that it sounded like the film Swades. Zarina and Ronnie then called Ashutosh and asked him if they could use the title, and he readily agreed to it. Ashutosh commented at the event that maybe it’s time for him to make Swades 2 now, and was asked by a journo whether he would like to cast the two sitting next to him. *lol* Which resulted in a round of laughs for everyone!
