Earlier this week, Team MissMalini was invited for a super exclusive tour of the famous Odel stores in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Started off in 1999 by the statesque, soft-spoken and deeply spiritual former model, Otara Del Gunewardene, the Odel stores (over 18 across Sri Lanka), are to Sri Lanka what Barneys is to New York, Harrods is to London and Westside is to India.

“We stock a wide range of products which range from our handicrafts to fashion to home accessories and even packaged tea, which Sri Lanka is famous for,” says Odel as she gives us a tour of her 33,000 square feet store in Alexandra Place, Colombo.

What we loved about the Odel stores were the super-friendly yet non-intrusive staff and the burst of colourful merchandise which is what adds a dash of brightness to your holiday.

Here are a few items that caught our fancy and you might want to check them out on your next visit to Sri Lanka:

I love Odel! Although the last time I was there was more than 7 years ago! But even at that time, this place was paradise to me!
And I really wouldn’t compare it to Westside!

Now I want to go to Sri Lanka so bad!!

How in the world are Barneys, Harrods and westside in the same sentence? The only similarity is that they are stores that sell stuff, that is where the similarities end. Come in people, research!

I went there in July. The store is definitely awesome. It’s so big I got lost in there! Loved all the treasures I found in there
