One of the most colourful and bright shows on Day-4 of the India Resort Fashion Week in Goa was by Mumbai-based designer, Babita Malkani. This effervescent lady knows her resort-wear, being a jet-setter, herself, and it came as no surprise that each and every piece in her collection – titled Neo-Pop Colour Tripping – was an ode to her favourite resort destinations across the globe.
Aimed at the free spirited woman but with a blend of urban chic, Babita’s colour palette offered an exhilarating kaleidoscopic shade card that came to life on the ramp. The bright neons in pink, green, orange and blue were used in dramatic contrasts with geometric and bizarre patterns as they created fun wear in silhouettes like jumpsuits, palazzos, kaftans and blousons, fashioned from fluid georgettes, crepes and chiffons, with hints of crochet.
Prints appeared in unusual places on hemlines, fronts of garments sides and at times all over the ensembles. The flared sheer check trousers, the sarong dress, the off-shoulder shaded tunic, the wrap around trousers, the multi coloured sequinned sheath and colour blocked halter chiffon beach cover were all ideal for a great resort holiday.
