Barack Obama and his family at the official swearing in
It was a big day for Barack Obama as he was sworn-in for a second term as the President of the United States. While all eyes were trained on him I couldn’t wait to check out the ever so chic Michelle Obama and what the star attendees wore. For the official swearing in (the public ceremony was purely ceremonial) Michelle wore a Reed Krakoff blue jacquard dress. She also debuted a new hairstyle – blunt bangs.

The next day saw her wear a coat from little known designer Thom Browne that she accessorized with a bling belt and magenta leather gloves.

For the inaugural ball it was Jason Wu again, the Chinese-American designer who she catapulted to fame the last time around when she wore his ivory one-shoulder gown. This around she picked a red halter neck gown and Jimmy Choo shoes. Love how she is loyal to her designers.

Jay Z and Beyonce
Also spotted was mega couple Jay Z and wife Beyonce who sang the national anthem. I love how Jay Z ditched his anti-fit jeans and basketball caps in favour for a very snazzy Tom Ford suit. Beyonce ever the diva wore an Emilio Pucci gown and a Dior coat. But the real dazzler was the 30 carat Lorraine Schwartz emerald earrings she wore.

Another star that performed was Alicia Keys wearing a beautiful Michael Kors red gown.

I love how she made a twist to her popular song Girl on Fire into Obama is on Fire.

Katy Perry and John Mayer
Also spotted in the crowd was Katy Perry and beau John Mayer. She wore a lovely Proenza Schouler coat. If memory serves you well, she famously sported an Obama manicure.

I do have to say, I MUCH prefer what she wore last time around. The lime-green Isabel Toledo coat and dress looked wonderful on her compared to this time’s subdued choice.
What do you think of Michelle’s style this time around?
