What I like best about Deepika Padukone is that she can fit into various different types of characters – she’s just as good as the sexy siren of Cocktail as she is the demure Shanti of Om Shanti Om. On The Front Row this week, Anupama Chopra asked her whether it was a conscious decision on her part to pick a slightly offbeat film after doing a high-on-glamour one. Here’s the excerpt from the show!

Anupama Chopra: Deepika do you plan your movies in a way that after Race 2 where it’s all about being sexy and glamorous, you then look for a role that is slightly off main stream?

Deepika Padukone: I don’t plan it like that. But it looks like that this year it’s going to be like that for me where I have a Race 2 but I’ll also have Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani and then I’ll also have a Chennai Express, then I’ll also have a Ram Leela. So, I think it’ll happen organically.

Saif Ali Khan: I hope we don’t lose glamour in slightly less cerebral films also because, for example Natalie Portman had a year where she played Black Swan as well as the female lead in Thor. Sometimes it’s beautiful to have like a intelligent actor to play like a cool role in not such a deep film. And it seems that’s what Deepika has done by doing this as well as Cocktail and the other four films she has mentioned.
