If you’re feeling peckish in the late afternoon but aren’t ready for a full meal, or you’re just looking for a satisfying mid-day snack, Yauatcha has you covered. Between 4-7pm, the London transplant offers a delightful fixed menu comprising a selection of fine teas, five pieces of dim sum, and your choice of three macaroons.

From a variety of Black, Green, Blue, Flower and Indian teas, we particularly enjoyed the Jasmine Green Tea – bright with a fresh flowery nose – and the Anxi Tie Kuan Yin – a subtly fruity blue tea with a pleasing smoky flavour from roasting.

Yauatcha’s claim to fame is it’s dim sum selection, which dominates its regular menu and never disappoints. While all five pieces included in the tea come perfectly steamed – no chewy or torn wrappers here – we particularly enjoyed the Prawn & Enoki Dumpling, the Chicken & Prawn Shumai, and the Truffle Edamame Dumplings. The Fried Vegetable Turnip Cake is also a winner, with even the most carnivorous amongst us agreeing, and we wouldn’t have argued against another Chicken Char Sui Bun or two either.

If there was one hiccup in the meal, it would be the macaroons, which were a little too crunchy on the outside and crumbled a little too finely for our liking. We didn’t really mind as the fillings were tasty, but you may want to ask your waiter which of their many flavours are the most fresh for the day.

Be warned – this is by no means a full meal. But as a light, tasty, and throughly satisfying mid-day nibble – in a super-chic, trendy atmosphere – you can’t go wrong with Yauatcha’s Aftenoon Tea.
