Daniel Craig wearing a Tom Ford tab collar shirt in "Skyfall"
007 and his tab collar shirt…

Another day, another post on Daniel Craig’s wardrobe in Skyfall. (Told you I was obsessed :-D) That film did to menswear what Sex and The City did for womenswear, which is dictate what the menfolk wear for the next few months or so. The incredibly-tailored Tom Ford might seem a little inaccessible to some, but the tab collar shirts that he sported throughout the film – most definitely, aren’t. Which is why, they’ve been flying off the shelves. Just what is a tab collar shirt then?

A tab collar shirt, you can say, is the dressier version of the button-down shirt. Basically, the points of the collar are fastened together by a strip of material, or the “tab”, underneath the tie knot. First popular in the 20s, they had another moment under the sun in the 60s. Now, Tom Ford, via the film, has resurrected it.

I’ve it in good authority that Selfridges in London sold out on its tab collar shirts within 3 days of Skyfall’s release 😉 So popular they turned out to be that the Savile Row shirt maker Emmett decided to include them in the S/S’13 collection.

Dermot O’Leary, a British TV personality and permanent fixture in the best-dressed lists, have been sporting them a lot lately.

And closer to home, Imran Khan was spotted in them, a gorgeous pink and white one by Tom Ford (of course!).

Yeah, I couldn’t recommend them enough. They give a clean, vintage look and add some intrigue to the neckline – and while at it, make the wearer look well stylish. You can get your hands on one, from the comforts of your home, from here, here, here and here. What are you waiting for??
