India Jones at the Trident Nariman Point played host to a special Malaysian Food festival this past week, as part of their carefully selected series to introduce new cuisines to discerning guests. To keep things strictly authentic, two chefs were flown in from the Manadarin Oriental Hotel in Kuala Lumpur to design and execute the menu.

Malaysian cuisine is famous for its eclectic mix of regional flavors, with from Indian, Chinese, and Malay influences dominating but also touched by Thai and Arabic nuances. From smokey satays to pumpkin soup, India Jones’ festival offered a great window into the Malaysian kitchen. Our favourites from the menu were the sweet and savoury Grilled Chicken in Honey Sauce, the soft and pillowy Roti Jala Kari Ayam (traditional net pancacke with chicken curry) and the Rendang Daging Temasik – beef tenderloin in an aromatic spiced gravy (we hear this one is going to be added to the regular menu.) Also worth a try was the Pineapple and Prawn in Turmeric Sauce.

The festival menu also featured a few traditional Malaysian desserts. While not entirely up our alley, fans of milk and coconut based sweets would not have been disappointed.

Psst! While not part of the Malaysian festival, we discovered the Banfi Col di Sasso Toscana on India Jones’ regular wine list and had to give it a shout out. A light, easy drinking red with lush mixed berry notes and soft tannins, this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese from Italy is a definite winner (and relatively easy on the wallet for an import)!
