If you thought the John Abraham sightings would taper off now that his film has been released, you were wrong – the actor put in an appearance yesterday for a press conference for one of his brands, sporting the same pair of pants that he did during his previous press conference. Interestingly, he spoke about doing a sequel for one film that most people will agree was not amongst his best – No Smoking, directed by Anurag Kashyap. Here’s what he said.

According to HT, John says:

“I would love to work in the No Smoking sequel. Anurag is working on his baby (Bombay Velvet) right now. And he is excited about that. I think it’s going to be a beautiful film. But I have told him to make No Smoking 2. I said, ‘People make sequels out of hit films. Let us make a sequel out of a flop movie’. He’s damn excited about it.”

John maintains that No Smoking is his favourite film and his best performance till date. While he admits that these type of films will never be huge commercial successes, he says he loves to do them, hence he’s been speaking to Anurag about working on a sequel of the film. He also gave an interesting explanation for why Anil Kapoor decided to do Slumdog Millionaire:

John says: “I don’t know if Anil Kapoor told you this, but the reason he did Slumdog Millionaire  was because his son’s (Harsh) favourite film is No Smoking and Anurag and Danny Boyle were good friends. So Harsh said, ‘I don’t care dad, you have to do Slumdog because of that connection. It’s crazy. No Smoking had nothing to do with it but still something to do with it.”

Interesting, isn’t it? I haven’t seen No Smoking but it seems like John is holding out hope to be able to do a sequel of the film. Would you watch it, if it ever came to be?
