Karan Johar claims that Bollywood hasn’t had a quintessential love story since Jab We Met – instead, masala films and experimental cinema have been taking over (he cites Dabangg, Agneepath and Rowdy Rathore as examples). Now he thinks it’s time for “genuine” love stories like that to come back into the limelight, and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is supposed to be one of them!

The director also notes that he personally hasn’t made a typical love story since Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1998, but believes that YJHD is of the same mould:

Karan Johar says:  “I would define the film as a perfectly formulated formulaic love story. After KKHH, YJHD can be put in the same bracket.”

So in one fell swoop he basically compared YJHD to two of the most popular Bollywood love stories. Comparisons and everything aside, though, I’d go watch this movie solely for Ayan MukherjeeWake Up Sid remains one of my favourite movies of all time, and I’m really interested in seeing how he does in his second outing. I’ve got my faith pinned on him. You?
