The best thing about attending a Shah Rukh Khan event is being able to come away chuckling over the witty things he said throughout. He is one charming guy, and he always knows how to keep a crowd entertained – whether by making hilarious comments that’ll make you laugh, or adorable comments that’ll make you go *awww*. This happened yet again when he came out to launch the cover of the recent Filmfare issue at Escobar in Bandra, and this time we made sure to keep a track of the best things he said in order to share them with you!

“I’m joking, please don’t make it the headline that I’m going to beat up someone.”

Filmfare editor Jitesh Pillaai mentioned that Shah Rukh never asks to see a photograph once taken, which he says speaks a lot about both his humility and self-confidence. SRK said the reason behind that is because if you love someone, you will always do your best to make them look good. He believes that whatever the media writes about him comes from a feeling of love – except for two or three people, he says, who he will “speak to” whenever he meets them, “after closing the bathroom door, not publicly, because someone would take a photo on a phone.” Then he laughed and clarified that he was joking and asked the media not to make it a headline.

“It’s a matter of great importance, let’s not just make it into snippets and headlines.”

Shah Rukh was asked for his comments about Sanjay Dutt being sentenced to jail, and he kept it classy by reminding everyone that it was an important matter and should not just be relegated to becoming someone’s snippets. He did say, though, that since they’re friends, at times like these you tend to think about the family and children more. But he refused to speak on the subject anymore, saying that everyone has to deal with things the way they have to.

“Start from your side, and I’m sure everyone else will also follow.”

One journalist asked why only stars get to be featured on magazine covers, and not people like the cinematographers or choreographers. A fair enough question, which Shah Rukh handled smartly: he asked the guy where he was from, the guy mentioned a website, and Shah Rukh said, “How many technicians do you put on the front page of your website? Start from your side, and I’m sure everyone else will follow.” Then he went on to say that the most important part of a film is made by the technicians, but everyone has a job defined, and only actors would look good on covers because they wear make-up and the like. He then compared the entire thing to a bar of soap, which is pretty funny – check out the video to see how he explains it!

“Of all the names that I’m called, I like papa the best.”

Earlier in the conference, Shah Rukh was told that he has been given several taglines – “King Khan,” “Baadshah,” “Global Icon,” “Baazigar,” the like. So one journo asked him which title he liked the best, and he very sweetly said, “Of all the names that I’m called, I like papa the best.” *Awww*

“Main Baadshah hoon, jahan jaana chahta hoon, jaata hoon.”

Another journalist asked SRK about the IPL matches, saying that he was too busy to go out and support his team, Kolkata Knight Riders. Shah Rukh asked, “Tujhe kaise maloom main kitna busy hoon? Mujhe maloom main kitna busy hoon.” (“How do you know how busy I am? I’d know how busy I am!”) The reporter persisted, asking Shah Rukh if that meant he would attend all the matches then. He rather exasperatedly (but smilingly) said, “Mera jis match mein dil chahega, main jaaonga. Nahin chahiye, nahin jaaonga. Main Baadshah hoon, jahan jaana chahta hoon, jaata hoon.” (On a side note, while that video title insists he was speaking about the Wankhede ban, he definitely wasn’t – he was only speaking in terms of his schedule. Wankhede didn’t come up at all – though I don’t doubt the journo was trying to get around to that point.)
