That Ranbir Kapoor and Ayan Mukerji are the best of friends is no secret, but Ayan actually prefers referring to their relationship in a different way entirely. He calls it an “old marriage,” so this week on The Front Row, Anupama Chopra asks him what he means by that. Here’s what he says!

Anupama Chopra: Ayan you described the relationship that you have with Ranbir as ‘an old marriage’. What does that mean?

Ayan Mukerji: It means that when we worked together in our first film, there was this sort of childishness, and may be the initial burst of excitement like the beginning of an affair – which is that everything you are doing with the actor feels new, but I think in some way our equation off-screen and even our working relationship is now much deeper.

Ranbir Kapoor: It’s like ghar ka khaana.

Ayan Mukerji: I feel I can take him for granted a lot of times. Ranbir is this big star in the film. Normally, you feel everything should be catered around him. We should try to pack him up early. I feel no such obligation with Ranbir. We treat him like he is a first timer. I am more worried about my DOP leaving the set, my AD leaving, my music composer. Ranbir is like last priority. I assume that he is going to be there for the film at all points of time throughout and it’s amazing that he gives the film that energy as well.
