There are two important issues to deal with during early monsoon – the transition from summer to monsoon and skincare during the rainy season.

From Summer to Monsoon:

The beautiful Mumbai monsoon is upon us, and what a relief it is from the heat and dust! But if you were planning to cool off on the sun screen regimen thinking that the clouds will protect you, guess again. Cloudy skies do not serve as a safeguard from the sun!

Angry, oily and irritated skin from the summer topped with the monsoon leads to further aggravation of acne, dull skin, open pores and any infection along your body folds. Make sure you calm and sooth your skin by using products like thermal water spray and calamine lotion. It’s also good to stick to cold water while you wash your face. You could even start some skin treatments like lasers and peels to lessen the summer tan.

During Monsoon:

The monsoons are unavoidable, but getting drenched is. However if you happen to get wet, wash your face and feet as soon as you can. Keep them dry, a good idea is to carry some wet wipes and tissues in your hand bag. Change your wet clothes asap. Make sure they are well dried, damp clothes increases the risk of infection to your skin especially in your body folds.

Must haves in your purse during the monsoon should include: wet wipes, moisturizer, face wash and sunscreen. Avoid any harsh treatment to your hair this season, you don’t want to damage it further. During monsoons use powdered forms of make-up, foundation and deodorants. (There are some collagen boosters available in powdered form too.) Now go out and enjoy the rain!

PS. If you have a dry skin, this is your season. Enjoy how your skin feels and most importantly keep the sun screen going!
