James Gandolfini, the star of HBO’s The Sopranos, died of a heart attack last night in Italy where he was expected to attend a film festival in Sicily. Friends, colleagues, and fans have shown an outpouring of support for the Gandolfini family on twitter, dominating global trends for the last several hours. The world is mourning the loss of one of this generation’s most prolific and memorable American pop culture icons. In addition to The Sopranos (which earned him 3 Emmy Awards for Best Actor), Gandolfini has appeared in dozens of Hollywood films, including Crimson Tide, Get Shorty, The Mexican, and most recently, Zero Dark Thirty.
