The trend of khadi and block printing continued at Sabyasachi’s show for Delhi Couture Week. Set in a French antique garden, you knew this would have a peasant chic look, an inspiration that Sabya has always done well.

This collection, “Opium” was all about vintage glamour. There was a restrained elegance even though Sabya used lots of embroidery thanks to his muted color palette and heavy usage of tonal embroidery.

Ivory was favored but there were also peaches, dusty pink and powder blues. Chintz block prints that had a country feel was juxtaposed with spangled sparkling sequins.

The lehenga sari – a Sabyasachi favorite, in tulle with thread embellishment, spelled elegance. The use of tulle throughout softened the look, and seems to be the fabric Sabyasachi will be dressing his brides in this season. There were flapper style dresses, coats, angrakhas, anarkalis and kurtas too. For men it was all about the sherwani also with elegant subtle embroidery and often with gold regal buttons. Over – dye and Ombre added to the rustic chic tone of the collection.

Sabyasachi balanced all the elements to make a chic statement, and this was a beautiful collection that hit the right notes.

With this “Opium” collection he redeemed himself from Cannes – remember Vidya Balan in costume on the red carpet? This was steeped in old world charm yet modern. Sabyasachi was not scared to load on those jewels. Be it rows of emeralds, pearls, jumka earrings or his now signature stacked fabric-embellished bangles.

His favorite accessory for this season is the mang tikka. Thankfully Sabyasachi did not use a showstopper, and kept the attention to his beautiful couture line.

The only down side was the length of the show – there was not enough variation to show over 40 pieces. A better edit and perhaps happier music would helped make this a collection you would not forget!
