For the past two days, reports have been doing the rounds that Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt will be seen yet again in another Karan Johar film together. However, now the latest buzz doing the rounds is that this film is a tribute to the classic Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, one of KJo’s favourite films.
The film, titled Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, will be directed by newcomer Shashank Khaitan. Mirror also maintains that this upcoming film will not be a remake of DDLJ – could you even imagine if someone tried to make a proper remake?! – but “will follow in the lines” of Raj and Simran. The team is also on the lookout for someone who can play a role similar to Parmeet Sethi‘s original one.
There has been no dearth of DDLJ “inspirations” over the years, so it remains to be seen whether this one will bring with it something fresh. It sounds interesting, though, and Varun and Alia seem like they’d make a good new-age Raj and Simran. Do you agree?
