The Winter/Festive 2013 season of Lakme Fashion Week opened with a bang last night, as Bollywood couturier Manish Malhotra, presented his show entitled, Reflections. And the fabulously star-studded audience was not disappointed!

His models walked down the ramp in pairs, separated by a white curtain of fabric strands. It gave the effect of a mirror-image as they walked perfectly in tandem with each other.

Keeping his silhouettes as classically Indian as possible, Manish played with the fabulous hues of Rajasthan and Kutch. The models swirled around on the runway, wearing creations in tones of deep green, dark beige, tan, burgundy, shocking pink, red, navy, and mustard, all dappled with mirror work and interesting colour blocking.

Here’s what Manish has to say about his latest collection:

Team MissMalini: Tell us about your collection.

Manish Malhotra: This collection for me was an inspiration from lots of folk influences. There’s lots of Rajasthan, lots of Kutch, lots of mirror work and colour blocking.

We saw lots of pictures, lots of paintings. I think it’s so interesting that a lot of the colour blocking which we see in rural areas are so modern as well. And we’ve also imbibed a lot of white Kashmiri work in the collection. All the work started three months ago. Many of the clothes went to Kashmir to get embroidered.

I wanted to introduce some style for this season so I’ve done sharara pants, which are a substitute for ghagras, we’ve done plazzo pants. Some of the designs have interesting backs. There is also a lot of structured, confident men’s wear.

I think the sharara pants will do very well this season.
