Things are surely bright for Deepika Padukone right now: two of her films from 2013 – Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Chennai Express – have taken the top 2 spots in this year’s highest grossing films. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that she’s the guest on this week’s The Front Row with Anupama Chopra. According to Anupama, the two discussed “success, movies, love and why [Deepika] talks to flowers.” They also discussed why Deepika feels she identifies with the character Naina – from YJHD – so much. Here’s an excerpt from the show!
Anupama: Deepika, you have spoken in many interviews about how much you identify with Naina and her character graph. How you also went from being someone inherently insecure and somewhat confused to someone who is confident and sure of herself. How did this transformation happen?
Deepika: Yes. I am Naina and her journey has been my journey in a lot of ways. I may not have been the scholar who sat in the first row and topped every exam. I didn’t enjoy studying at all. I have too much energy in my body to sit and read a book. I would rather be playing sports outside. But if it makes any difference I was not the last-bencher. When I played Naina I knew where it was coming from, I had identified with it and I just had to be myself. I think people come into your life at a certain time in your life. Especially when you’re in your 20s, the people that come into your life are very very instrumental in the person that you become eventually. So I think that’s what it’s been.
