The Front Row with Anupama Chopra

The Front Row with Anupama Chopra this week features an interesting theme: zara hatke. Anupama will be chatting with Bollywood personalities who have made an attempt to stand out with the kind of films that they do, whether it be Irrfan Khan (as an actor), John Abraham (as a producer), or Vikramaditya Motwane (as a director). On the show tonight, Anupama speaks to them about the challenges of making such cinema, and asked John what he went through when he decided to make Madras Cafe. Here’s what he had to say.

Anupama Chopra: What’s the most outrageously memorable or silly thing that you’ve been told when you decided to make Madras Cafe?  I’m sure enough people tried to dissuade you and tell you it won’t work.John Abraham: Shoojit (Sircar) offered Madras Cafe to me seven years ago. The studio at that point and time just threw it out of the window. They didn’t even entertain the idea. We did our own stuff and got back together to discuss Madras Cafe, and when Vicky Donor came out is when we had studios sitting up and listening to us.
Anupama: After the film’s release, have you met that first studio?

John: Yes. They are still clueless. (laughs)
