It’s taken Karan Johar years to get Salman Khan on the show, and now that he has, we can definitely say that it was worth it. While I thought the show started off a little awkwardly – Karan looked uneasy and Salman was blubbering unclearly about a few things – it picked up after the first break. Remember when KJo opened up earlier about this fourth season of Koffee With Karan and told his audiences that the show is all about “reading between the lines”? Well, there was no better way to prove that point than by his first episode with Salman Khan. There were instances when Bhai didn’t explicitly say anything, but he said enough then that we could make all the inferences we want to. In case you missed the first episode – or want a recap – we’ve jotted down 5 interesting revelations the actor made on the show.

1. He’s nearly gotten married before, but it hasn’t worked out – possibly because he cheated on Sangeeta Bijlani.

Quote: “I’ve always come so close [to marriage], but it just doesn’t work out.”

All those people who are dying to know when Salman Khan will get married, this is perhaps the most comprehensive answer he’s given on the subject ever. Firstly, he admitted to getting very annoyed when people ask him when he’ll tie the knot, and says that, “When the time comes to get married, I’ll get married.” But he didn’t give the excuse of not having found the right person; in fact, he actually admitted that there were a number of right people, but he expects – or hopes – that they will get “righter and righter” as the time goes by.

Karan also asked him whether he wants to get married at this point, and although Salman didn’t answer that exactly, he did say that there was one time where he really did want to get married but it didn’t work out. Some people, he said, got cold feet, thinking that, “Boyfriend theek hai… isko zindagi bhar jhel na padega kya?” (“He’s okay as a boyfriend… but to tolerate him for the rest of my life?”) He also revealed that he and Sangeeta Bijlani got to the point where their wedding cards were also printed. Interestingly, Karan asked him what happened then, and whether Sangeeta “caught him.” Salman laughed it off at first, and then replied, “Ya… kind of.” Yup, think he just admitted to cheating on her. As for whether he gets “caught” these days, Salman says that now he just lies – and denies the whole thing. He also openly tells women, “I’m not ready for any kind of relationship and serious commitment right now.”

2. He’s a virgin (i.e. He knows how to lie with a straight face).

Quote: “I’m going to save myself for the one I get married to.”

He already said earlier on the episode that he can lie with a straight face, and then he proved it a few minutes later when he claimed that he was a virgin. Such a strange “joke” to make, but anyway, this was the context: Salman said that he has never spoken about his relationships because if things don’t materialise, the girl goes with the stigma that she was dating Salman Khan. “I choose never to talk about this, before or after. So technically, I’ve never broken-up with anybody because I’ve never had a girlfriend.” KJo prompted him, saying, “On-record, you mean. You’ve never spoken about it, but of course you’ve had a girlfriend.” Salman retaliated with a, “No, I’ve never had a girlfriend in my life. I’m going to save myself for the one I get married to.” Obviously Karan then asked if that means he’s a virgin. Salman said yes, Karan laughed… and so did the rest of the world.

3. He’s scared.

Quote: “I get scared about what people might think.”

Salman says there are two versions of him – the old Salman and the new one. “There’s this old Salman Khan that wants to keep coming back, but this new guy keeps pushing him back.” Salman says that the only thing he fears now is the return of those things he left behind – the drinking, smoking, partying. However, there’s nothing that he regrets. According to him, he actually liked the old him, but feels now that there’s a sense of responsibility that he has. “This, perhaps, would not be the real me – but I’m trying to keep that old me deep down inside me, and I’ll make sure that he never comes out. Even though I like that guy.” He also claims that he doesn’t like the new him and that he’s “boring” and gets fed up with himself.

4. He holds onto his good memories with Shah Rukh.

Quote: “We’ve known each other for the longest time, and I want to keep those memories.”

This was one of my favourite revelations of the night. There’s a lot that’s been said about the SRK-Salman war and that hug they shared the night of an Iftaar party. While they have spoken about it here or there, this is the first time that Salman has truly opened up about their relationship. According to the actor, they will never be the best of friends, but he still has a lot of respect for him and has loved him over the years:

“When people try and bitch about him and say shit about him and think they can and earn brownie points, they’re very wrong. I hate that. I’ve spent a lot of time with him. I may not see eye to eye, but there are a lot of times that I’ve spent with him, and I’ve really liked the guy. When people think they can speak bad about him, I don’t permit that at all. At all. Because somewhere, I love the guy as a brother.” He also said that he thinks SRK could have ended their fight the night it happened itself, but he didn’t approach him even though he passes his house several times in a day. Now, he prefers to just keep those good memories he has with him, even though they’ve both gone their different ways and no longer need each other.

5. Ranbir and Katrina are dating each other.

Quote: “[Ranbir] is taking away everything, yaar. This is not fair.”

Poor Ranbir Kapoor, he always gets his case taken on Koffee With Karan! There was a lot said about him and Katrina Kaif on this episode, but they were all hints rather than explicit statements. Here are some of the most interesting lines:

[When talking about Katrina’s beach photos being leaked during her holiday] “Ranbir didn’t do that?” (He later said he was joking, but hmm.)

[When asked what he would do if he woke up one morning and realised he was Ranbir Kapoor] “Salman lucky hain… ya main?” (“Is Salman lucky, or am I?”) We’re guessing in relation to “having” Katrina Kaif!

[When asked what he would do if he woke up one morning and realised he was Katrina Kaif] “Where’s Ranbir?”

[When asked what advice he’d give to Ranbir] “Have fun.”

[When asked what advice he’d give to Katrina] “Make sure he doesn’t have fun.”

[When asked who’s the next director he wants to work with] “Karan Johar. But Karan Johar doesn’t want to work with me. You’ve signed Ranbir Kapoor next. He’s taking away everything, yaar. This is not fair.” Ouch.
