Looking as pretty as a picture and bedecked in a  brightly coloured bridal ensemble by Ashima and Leena Singh was critically acclaimed actress, Huma Qureshi, who sauntered down the ramp with much aplomb at India Bridal Week in Mumbai, last night.

Having made her debut in Bollywood only last year, in Gangs Of Wasseypur (part 1 and 2), Huma has become known as an actress with immense talent. Hence, it comes as no surprise that even as her star is rising in the film industry, she is being looked upon as a glamorous persona to reckon with.

Team MissMalini met up with Huma (along with the designers) for an exclusive chat once she got off the ramp and we got her to spill the beans on her wedding plans and most importantly, what she has learnt from Madhuri Dixit, her co-star in the upcoming film, Dedh Ishqiya.

Here’s what she reveals to us:

Team MissMalini: Please describe the outfit Huma wore on the ramp for your show at India Bridal week?

Ashima Singh: Huma is wearing a lehenga which is made from a patchwork of beautiful textile fabrics. It is in hues of fuchsia, green and gold. They have all been composed together to make for a beautiful story. We have used no surface embellishments at all and yet it is very beautiful.

Team MM: Huma, what do you think of when you walk down the ramp?

Huma Qureshi: Well, I actually get very scared and I’m only concentrating on the fact that I should not trip and fall. I’ve seen many videos of supermodels tripping and falling flat on their faces. So that’s my only fear. But I think when you are wearing such a beautiful outfit, you feel beautiful too. So you don’t have to think too much.

Team MM: Have you planned your own wedding yet, like most girls do?

HQ: I have planned my own wedding but I don’t know who the guy is, as yet. I have also worked out all the details for it. Like, it has to be a destination wedding. There has to be lots of partying. There has to be lots of clothes and jewelry – which I must get from everybody concerned. So yes….all the details have been planned. I just have to find the guy. And that’s just a minor detail (laughs).

Team MM: Lina, give us some tips for the bride for her wedding day?

Lina Singh: The bride, I think, should be very comfortable and nothing should over-power her own beauty…not her jewelry…not her clothes. She should feel good about herself on D-Day because if you don’t feel good, or if you feel nervous, it shows.

Team MM: Huma, tell us about your personal style?

HQ: My personal style is very comfortable. I like to wear clothes where I can prance around and do my thing. So I choose comfort over everything else. Of course, my look also has to be put together, well. So now I have good stylists to help me get dressed and it’s not much of a problem.

Team MM: Do you have any favourite brands which you like to sport?

HQ: Yes, Zara! I think i’m a Zara girl. So anything by them. Or Vero Moda. I’m mostly into high-street wear.

Team Missmalini: Are there ever days when you just hate to dress up, but you have to because the media expects it from you?

HQ: Of course! There are those off-days. The days when you don’t feel like putting in that extra effort. But at the end of the day, you realise that people look at you and you then have to be an icon of good fashion and good dressing. We tend to be aspirational in that sense. So yes, I have to be a little more careful. It’s painful at times but it’s just part of the job.

Team MM: Tell us about your role in Dedh Ishqiya?

HQ: I’m playing a girl who comes from this old-world Muslim culture. It’s a very quirky tale about relationships and poetry, people conning each other, romance, guns and all of that. My look for the film is again very lovely and decked up – just like I am right now. So I’m very excited about it. It releases on the 10th of January.

Team MM: What did you learn from your co-star, Madhuri Dixit?

HQ: I think I have to do many films with her in the future so at least, I’ve learnt how to smile like she does. She has a thousand watt smile.

Team MM: And lastly, a message for your fans…

HQ: Follow fashion, but not blindly. Be comfortable. Look beautiful. Smile a lot. Be confident and don’t forget to go to MissMalini.com (laughs).
