Arijit Singh
Arijit Singh

I remember Arijit Singh all the way back from his Fame Gurukul days, when he was that gawky teenage boy. If I remember correctly, he was the youngest contestant back then – 18, I believe – but he still wowed everyone with his voice. Cut to several years later, when I had first discovered Raabta and was listening to it on repeat: I glanced at the singer’s name, thought it sounded familiar, and then realised he was the same guy! What a great journey he’s had, too – it took him a while to really make a name for himself, maybe, but once he did, he became practically an overnight sensation. He’s actually my favourite singer in the industry today, and if you look at some of the tracks he’s sung, it’s not difficult to see why – Raabta, Kabira, Tum Hi Ho, Phir Le Aaya Dil, Yaariyan, Laal Ishq… all songs that are high up there on my favourites list.

These are also songs that I would love to hear acoustic versions of, so I am really, really happy to hear that Arijit is the guest on MTV Unplugged this weekend. He’ll be singing a number of his songs, and I can’t wait to listen to them all. I bet you can’t, either, which is why the folks at MTV have released one of his tracks – arguably the most popular, Tum Hi Ho. Check out Arijit singing the acoustic version live, and let us know what you think about it:

I am most looking forward to Kabira, though. There is a short, 30 second promo of the song if you want to get an idea of what it will sound like, but it’s not much to go by:

Unfortunately, he won’t be singing Raabta again. He had sung it when he came on the show during season two, remember?

I loved that performance, so I can’t wait to see what this one brings. He will also be singing Phir Le Aaya Dil, Dua and Ilahi.

Remember, the show will air on Saturday at 8pm on MTV, so make sure you’re tuned in.
