In my life, you see the essence of survival and joie de vivre, whether you are aware of it in an academic or fantastical sense or not, I am living it all the time. I have followed my heart and soul through all the seas and shores more than many have in such few years. And my relationships are testimony to my way of life. Solid, forever and brilliant. And so I said good bye to a tough year, 2013 and am looking out toward greater highs than lows in 2014. With fabulous friends, I celebrated the birthday of my loved one and said good bye to a year that has had great challenges. Yes, I did feel knocked around, but brilliant friendships saw me through it all, and we celebrated together.

At a restaurant that truly challenges the lack of space in this city, where every inch counts. A double storey space, with vaulted ceilings, we partied the night away, with an eclectic mix of fabulous friends, cutting the birthday cake, opening champagne, and singing along with the DJ’s unique pick of lounge, house, rock and yes, lungi dance!

It was a party off the beaten track, not your regular fare, with some emotional speeches by my friends and me, and special moments celebrated with close friends. Suleman and Christine Jamal, two of my very early friends in India, flew down and had a surprise for me in the form of a special performance on the harmonica, and my friends who stayed until the wee hours of the morning were riveted.

The guest list was more friends and loved ones, a warm comfortable feel and the air was most festive with a sense warmth and bon homie. I chose a peocock shaded chiffon gown by Tarun Tahiliani and felt quite flow-ey. In attendance were Mumbai’s real people, heart people, loved friends and people I’ve travelled a roller coaster journey with. With whom you let your hair down and be yourself. Together, we enjoyed the delectable fare of the newly opened Le Mangii restaurant at Kamla Mills, Lower Parel, conceptualized and created by Prashant Chaudhuri whose brain child Le Mangii is now a brand to be reckoned with. Mine was in fact the first party to be hosted at this outlet and guests who had even flown down from other countries to be with me, enjoying the edgy decor and international cuisine. The atmosphere was extremely relaxed.
