Trends We Want to See End in 2013
Trends We Want to See End in 2013

This year is drawing to a close and while we’re wondering what 2014 has in store for us, I thought of the few things fashion-wise that I would like to see retire in 2013!

This 80’s trend made a strong comeback in the past few seasons and while we’ve whole-heartedly jumped aboard this bandwagon, I’m hoping this trend doesn’t continue to the next year. Firstly, it’s not flattering to Indian skin tones and secondly, it’s time to stop looking like a highlighter, don’t you think?

Nail Art:

The Internet, or rather Instagram exploded with images of various artworks done on long talons. We spotted everything from flowers and flags to now even Christmas trees. However, I’m hoping we see the return of the classic French manicure and simple solid coloured hues. It will look extremely chic and people will not think you’re secretly having an age crisis – leave it to the teens.

Anarkalis:

These voluminous desi outfits have not been doing any favours to the ladies out there. Why anyone would want to look bigger than they actually are is something that flummoxes me. What I really can’t stand are the ones that have velvet piping. I hope, instead, that the more fitting churidaar kurta makes a return.

Bandage Dresses:

I have never really understood Bollywood and society czarinas’ obsession with bandage dresses. Every starlet seems to think that wearing this body-con silhouette will look make them look sexy. Well, you just end up looking tarty. If you really want to wear something sexy, try opting for leather leggings or a boudoir inspired outfit. It will be a refreshing change.

Mullet Skirts:

Can we please bring back normal skirts – whether it’s mini, midi, pencil or maxi? We would like to see the whole fabric around the skirt, instead of seeing your knees (which aren’t the best feature to show off). Next season is all about pleated maxi skirts – so why not snap one of those instead?

Which trend would you like to retire in 2013? Let us know in the comments below.
