We woke up to some incredibly sad news this morning – veteran actor Farooq Sheikh passed away in Dubai late last night (Friday). The actor was in the city reportedly to attend an event, but unfortunately had a heart attack and passed away at the age of 64. A family member confirmed the news to the media, but would not say much more about his death. All that is known is that his body will be brought back to Mumbai, but only after all the formalities are completed in Dubai.
Mr Sheikh was one of the most talented and versatile actors in the industry – he’s done everything from films to television serials (both acting and hosting) to theatre. More than that, though, he is probably most appreciated for that calm aura around him. He’s one actor known for his simplicity, and that smile that could quietly light up an entire scene.
He was last seen in Club 60, which he did alongside other talented performers like Sarika, Satish Shah, Himani Shivpuri and Zarina Wahab. Prior to that, he was seen in Listen… Amaya and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. In YJHD, he played the role of Ranbir Kapoor‘s father, and it is a testament to his talent that the two scenes he did were amongst the most heartwarming in the film. Earlier, in 2010, he also won the National Award for Best Supporting Actor in his 2009 film, Lahore.

It turns out that, after his Dubai trip, Farooq Sheikh was supposed to head to Indore. Boman Irani tweeted saying that he was supposed to meet the actor today to shoot. Unfortunately, though, he passed away before this happened.
