One of my favourite films is 2001’s Nayak, which, unfortunately, didn’t do that well at the box office when it first released. However, over the years it has received a lot more appreciation, which is perhaps why there is a sequel in the works! Yup, Anil Kapoor (the original film’s lead actor) recently revealed that he will be acting in and co-producing a sequel to the film, titled Nayak Returns, which is set to go on floors in the beginning of 2015 – so yes, it’s still some time away from getting made.

The movie won’t be a continuation of the 2001 flick, which, by the way, was based on the 1999 Tamil film Mudhalvan. Instead, it will be a completely different story, which will have “traces of real life,” according to Anil Kapoor. Whether that means it will be based on Arvind Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party is something we have to wait to know, because the 24 star is keeping mum as of now. He revealed that they have been working on the script for about a year now, but cannot divulge any more information at this point, except that politics will play a part (which is a given) and the main lead will be a crusader.

We’ll keep you updated as the months go by, but for now, take a moment out to rewatch the fantastic interview scene from Nayak. It definitely is among my favourite scenes of all time:

What are your thoughts? Did you like the original film? Are you looking forward to a sequel, or do you think that they may just end up spoiling it? Would you have preferred if they took Shivaji Rao‘s story forward, or are you happy that they’re working on a different plot entirely? Let us know in the comments below!
