Women belong to two sides of the make-up spectrum – on one side, they like to play up their lips and on the other, they like to let their eyes do all the talking! If you fall into the latter category – I’ve got some really easy tips for you to apply makeup like a pro. Want to know what they are? Read on!

1) Never Play Up Both Features

The golden rule with make-up is that you ought to highlight one feature and underplay the other. If you want to play up your eyes, make sure you keep your lips subtle.

2) How to Perfect the Cat-Eye

Pat McGrath, make-up artist extraordinaire revealed to Elle magazine her secret to achieving the perfect cat-eye. She said, “The fatter the eyeliner, the easier it is to use. With a pencil, just draw the shape you like and clean up the mistakes with a bit of cleanser.” Now that’s handy! For a fun alternative, try a coloured pencil instead of the usual black.

3) Out-Power Your Glasses!

Girls with glasses – I feel you. From one bespectacled girl to another, I can tell you it’s hard to let your eye make-up show. To combat that, Clinique’s New York based Global Colour Artist, Jenna Menard has an easy solution. “Glasses paired with a strong eye is a great look. To out-power glasses, the key is making shadow visible. A light wash of one shade may not be enough. Layer a few bold colours or create a graphic shape and work those lids under the glasses.”

4) Ace the Smokey Eye

“I love layering eye shadow over eyeliner in order to create dimension through different textures. Smudging a soft liner and topping it with a shadow creates a smokey eye that is easy to achieve and will last throughout the day. Rather than black, I gravitate towards creating smokey eye looks with colour.” says Menard.

5) Get Wide-Eyed

Want to give an illusion that you’ve had a good night’s sleep by making your eyes appear larger? Apply a shimmery champagne shadow or white liner to the inner corner of your eyes. That will do the trick!

6) Make Your Eyes Pop!

“Try a light shadow along your upper and lower lash line to make your eyes appear bigger and brighter.” From as close as possible to the tear duct, softly line your lid and lower lashes with the lightest shadow from the palette you’re using. This backstage trick will makes your eyes pop.” says Revlon’s Creative Director, Gucci Westman.
