The installation revolves around the elements of earth, water, fire and air, and Gaurav Gupta’s reflections on India.

“When I thought about Be Open and India and my reflection of India, I started thinking of elements. Earth, Water, Fire, Air – there is a powerful elemental and spiritual sense that India brings. What I propose for Be Open is a scene – an installation where there is a sofa, a table, a carpet and three clothed mannequins. A scene where it seems like a large wave of water or a strong breeze or a huge fire has passed through the set up and affected it in a very elemental way.”

He explains that his ideas of India is a strong wave that is very core in its impact and distinctly washes one away.

“What I call the Wave Effect is that of sedimentary rocks eroded, of the left over silt on shores. Colours for all the designed objects remain elemental – black or white. The garments are in solid black made of raisin and fabric, and the wave effect is in black too.”

As a designer, Gaurav’s mastery over architecture in drapes is no secret and we see him bring the same love for structure and his strong creative vision to his expressions as an artist. It was recently that his store at DLF Emporio mall in the capital was recognized by The INSIDE World Architecture awards for one of the best retail spaces in the world.

We are thrilled to enjoy the minds of designers like Gaurav’s not only in a fashion perspective but in more forms of arts. Well, at the end of the day, it all comes down to the very core of an expression. Congrats Gaurav! We love every minute of the vision you share with us!
