So, yesterday, MissMalini had this genius idea (yes, even if we’re praising ourselves) to put blog ideas on chits in our Koffee With Karan cup for those dry days (not the non-alcoholic kind) where we have trouble coming up with posts. Everyone tossed in memos and we decided to pick out a single one every day in rotation and blog it! I’m going first and the topic I picked was ‘Songs That Make You Hungry’ (courtesy Marvin D’Souza). Of course, my parameter was Bollywood songs and they just kept coming. Are you ready to drool?

1. Ice Cream, Lime Juice…

Is it weird that the first thing I notice is Madhuri Dixit‘s white satin night suit? In any case, every girl will agree that ice cream and chocolate are her best friends and sometimes make better company than boys. #JustSaying

Movie: Hum Aapke Hain Koun

2. Samose mein Aloo

Ok, don’t judge me, but I was on set when this song was being shot! David Dhawan, Akshay Kumar and Juhi Chawla in their prime. I wouldn’t have missed it for the world. But I don’t know if anyone was aware that the song would go on to become so popular. And it’s kind of perfect too, considering the first snack you reach out for during the intermission of a movie is a samosa.

Movie: Mr. & Mrs. Khiladi

3. Tujhe Mirchi Lagi Toh

Speaking of David Dhawan movie songs and his love for food, how could we not include ‘Main toy raste se jaa raha tha… main toh sev puri kha raha tha‘? Especially because we have a ritual at Team MissMalini HQ. At 5pm, Marvin asks everyone in the office if they want sev puri because his ‘sev puri guy’ only comes under the building at that time. And I always ask for ‘bina mirchi, kam teekha‘.

Movie: Coolie No. 1

4. You are my Chicken Fry

If there was only one thing you needed to know about our boss, Nowshad Rizwanullah, it would be that he worships Bappi Lahiri. Too much? Idolizes. Still too much? Adores!
The truth is, the minute he heard I was doing this post, he piped in: “Songs to get you hungry? Well then we all know what song has to be on this list. You are my chicken fry by Bappi Lahiri“. His words. Not mine.

Album: Rock Dancer

5. Ande ka Funda

You might think I’m a little obsessed with David Dhawan here, but, c’mon it’s Ande ka funda. This is the most multi-purpose song I’ve heard! And the last of my bragging, I was present during the entire outdoor schedule of this movie, which included shooting the song in Goa. Contrary to its popularity, my vegetarian sensibilities were quite offended when I first heard this song and even more when I watched how it was being picturised. However, I quite literally have to eat up my words when I hear the song play on radio.

Movie: Jodi No. 1

6. Batata Wada, Batata Wada

You have to understand that Team MissMalini feels very strongly about music. And when it comes to shady Bollywood songs (agreed 90% of them are!), we get really animated. So, Marv, who dreamt up this topic, had to contribute his two cents. I had completely forgotten about this song, ‘Batata wada‘ until Marv reminded us. We’re having a field day in the office laughing at this wonder.

Movie: Hifazat

7. Doodh ban jaungi, Malai ban jaungi

Another gem that only Marv could have remembered. I’m dying to know what, or rather who, he wants to eat after watching this video. Your thoughts?

Movie: Sarhad

8. Ek garam chai ki pyali ho

If you thought a cup of tea a day wasn’t good for you, you should hear what Rashmi Daryanani has to say. “I watch this video once a day for good health”. I’m feeling so many emotions watching this video. And honestly, can you blame me? I have two phrases for you. Anu Malik’s voice and Salman Khan’s clothes. Appeased? Yeah, that’s what I thought.

Movie: Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega

So, that’s my list and first chit out of the cup. Do tell us what you’re most tempted to eat/drink right now and please share your ideas for blogs we can write in the comments below.
