I could hardly hear most of the songs, especially the popular numbers, because the crowd’s cheering totally drowned the singing. That was the mood at the AR Rahman Infinite Love Concert at Kuala Lumpur last Saturday. The 3-hour long concert was attended by more than 15,000 fans from the region. Team MissMalini was in Kuala Lumpur to cover the concert and here is our favourite moments from the concert.

AR Rahman’s Entry

Fireworks shot from the audio console to the stage in a very grand manner. Rahman was brought up from under the stage using hydraulics. The opening number was Dil Se Re. The crowd started cheering and never stopped until about one minute into the song. It was amazing – people were standing and jumping with their arms thrown to the air. Absolute madness!

Performance accompanied by Chinese Lion Dance

It was hilarious, but extremely entertaining. Whoever thought of the idea is brilliant. Malaysia has a huge population of people of Chinese origins, and lion dance is a common cultural dance. To see it incorporated in an Indian concert with lions dancing to the famous tune of Ottagathai Kattiko from the movie Gentleman, had the crowd in splits. The coordination was perfect. Very cute! Here’s the song, the rest is up to your imagination:

Line up of masterly singers

AR Rahman is one of the most successful composers India and the world at large has ever seen. Singers often regard it to be an honour to perform for him. And what is a song without a singer? The concert saw a good line-up of singers such as Chitra, Mano, Mohit Chauhan, Javed Ali, Vijay Prakash and Shweta Pandit, amongst others.

Indescribable instrumental with Pandit Vishwa Mohan

OMG! This gave me goosebumps! I melted and my heart shrunk. It was divine. You have to hear it. Words won’t do justice. Here it is:

The Finale

I was 100% sure that the concert will end with Jai Ho! I was right… it was beautifully performed by all the singers in the team. Watch the finale here!

The superb interactive audience

The audience was amazing. Everyone cheered and threw their hands up in the air during the concert. Most in the audience had come to watch AR Rahman perform his Tamil numbers. For them, it was rather a let-down, but they were sporting and enjoyed the show nevertheless. AR Rahman thanked all his fans via Facebook by saying “My shows will never be possible without the tolerance and support of all my fans that include Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Bengali, Punjabi and international. I am proud of all those who have supported me all these years proving to the world that music is a unifying factor indeed ! Love you… am grateful to all of you!
